— President of the FAIS-2024 Congress
We are confident that FAIS-2024 will be a forum for engaging discussions, fostering collaborations, and sparking new ideas that will advance the field of immunology.
It is my great honour to extend a warm welcome to you for the 2024 Federation of African Immunology Societies Congress (FAIS-2024), scheduled from December 10th to 13th, 2024, at the Palais des Congrès de Cotonou in Benin. This landmark event, themed “Innovative Strategies Against Infectious Diseases and Emerging Immunological Disorders in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities,” is set to be a significant gathering for immunologists and scientists worldwide.
As the founding President of the Benin Immunology Society, created in November 2019 and a member of FAIS since 2020, it is with great elation that I welcome the FAIS congress in Benin. This congress, initially planned to be held in The Gambia, faced attempts to be transferred to three different countries before finally settling in Benin, thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of the Leadership of the Benin Immunology Society. FAIS-2024 represents a crucial milestone as we convene in Benin to address pressing issues in immunology.
This congress offers a unique platform to explore the latest research and innovative strategies aimed at addressing both infectious and non-infectious diseases that affect our continent and the global community. The opening ceremony will include welcome remarks from distinguished representatives and a keynote presentation on the state of immunology in Africa by Henry Mwamdumba, Director of the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme (MLW) and immediate past President of FAIS.
Our Scientific Committee, which I co-chair with Clive Gray, FAIS Vice President and incoming President, and distinguished members of FAIS, has worked diligently to curate an inspiring agenda to foster inclusivity and bring together scientists from across Africa and beyond. Our scientific program is designed to showcase the diversity and depth of our field. Plenary sessions will cover topics such as emerging infectious diseases, vaccine development, cancer immunology, HIV, TB, malaria, and the One Health approach. We will also highlight industry collaborations and funding opportunities crucial for advancing immunological research.
In addition to scientific discussions, FAIS-2024 will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Benin. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience local music and cuisine, adding an artistic and cultural dimension to the congress.
We eagerly anticipate welcoming you to Cotonou. We are confident that FAIS-2024 will be a forum for engaging discussions, fostering collaborations, and sparking new ideas that will advance the field of immunology.
We look forward to your participation in what promises to be an enriching and memorable event.
